If you said that the government was wiretapping your phone in 1999, everybody would have called you a nutjob.

Now if you say that the government is wiretapping your phone, no one cares.

How can Americans sleep at night now or look in a mirror without feeling disgusted and ashamed?

Because Snowden was (and still is) an operative of the US government, deployed with a retarded narrative to ensure the US could announce to everyone that they were being spied on and ensure no one cared.

For a while people were really upset at x-ray body scanners at airports, but then they replaced them with the (maybe?) less harmful, and significantly more useless/placebo, millimeter wave machines that everyone just accepts now, globally .. except in the US where people also accept shoe removal (the shoe bomber was also likely an FBI plant). No other country requires shoe removal, but you'll watch the majority of people just do it anyway out of habit.
My boss at the time once said to me back around 1980, he once worked for Grumman aerospace, that never say anything on a phone (there weren't any cells at that time) that you don't want overheard.
