If there was a free press, it would have exposed these anti consumer practices, and if the public was educated, they would have voted with their dollars.
Like with xbox one... real journalism let everyone to know the Xbox one was a spy device and a terrible console, BEFORE it launched... people voted with their dollars and Sony reigned..
Of course free press cannot ve the only defender of consumer oractices, especially considering that mainstream media is typically owned by capitalists who are only interested in making money.
@freepatriot Side note: the free market also led to monopolies like Microsoft getting away with anti-consumer practices. What can stop them is * government intervention and redistribution of wealth, among other regulations that apply to large coroporations.
