I do not know that assimilation for today's immigrants to western countries is possible. But I will say that assimilation is a bare minimum requirement for any immigrant coming to the US or any other western country. By moving here, you are admitting that we are doing something better than your country of origin. And if we are not, then why are you here instead of there?
Being here for economic reasons alone shows you are not assimilating, and you therefore should not be here.
On this topic, I see why libertarians have no issue with immigrants solely here for economic reasons. Because they seem to only view countries as economic zones themselves, so they see no issue with immigrants viewing the country as that same way. But they fail to realize that immigrants don't share the same view on general freedom that they do. They simply demand more laws and policies in their favor while seeking the most economic advantage they can.
@houseoftolstoy Well, this libertarian makes a distinction between this world we live in, reality, and the ideal libertarian world. Free immigration is not a problem _if_ there is no welfare state. If no money will be given, the free loaders will not come, because they will starve to death.
As long as you have a welfare state, free immigration is a death sentence, because, like locusts, arabians and africans will just overrun the country and its culture.
So first, dismantle the government
@h4890 unfortunately too many libertarians do not think like this and assert that any "win" in the direction of liberianism is a sign of progress no matter the second and third order consequences. This type of "lose 10 yards to gain 3" mentality caused Colorado to be less libertarian when the state legalized marijuana. It turns out that a lot of pot smokers don't care about freedom in the abstract, just the freedom to get high.
@houseoftolstoy Ouch, this is very sad. Those libertarians actually harm the libertarian cause. Because you need to introduce freedoms, and deregulate government carefully, and there are dependencies involved in successful deregulation.
If everything just disappears over night, all h*ll breaks loose.
Prime example... sweden privatized the electricity grid by creating private monopolies. This is stupid and has led to several 100% price increases.

@houseoftolstoy the telco markets, there were several competitors involved, and this has led to a price today for cellphones where you get unlimited minutes and messages for about 10 USD per month. I'd argue that it is potentially among the lowest prices for a cellphone in europe. This is privatization done right.
