Just got told once again that actually it’s young people that have a terrible can’t-do attitude and we’re just lazy and refusing to apply to all these awesome super high paying jobs

“Don’t tell me ‘nobody offers full benefits’, that’s bullshit and you know it. You can find PLENTY of jobs with FULL dental and health insurance they are EVERYWHERE.“

When I asked him to quantify that and prove it he just said

“well there’s always costco! Even if you don’t have nothing you could always get hired on at costco and work your way up in a year or two then move on to better things. You could work part time there while you’re going to night school, befor you know it you’re graduated and earning $60,000 a year working your way up at THAT job too“

He still won’t believe me when I describe the landscape, and this guy hasn’t had to search for a job during my lifetime. I tried to even explain that the “full benefits” you see online are gatekept with impossible standards like the ol’ 39-hour workweek maximum he hand waved it away and said

“see? there’s that bad attitude again“

@KonataWagner What’s funny is that he’ll go home tonight and say “these kids have the WORST attitude, they’re so negative and pessimistic. No wonder they’re such losers!“

We’re working together again next week so I’m looking forward to it

@WashedOutGundamPilot The thing that would've really set me off is the Costo part. Like, you fucking retard, you don't know that getting a job in retail worthwhile now requires a college degree? They don't just promote people for sticking around. Faggot
@KonataWagner my dad used to always talk about them and he never, not even to this day believes that I actually applied there all through HS and college. Hell, it would have been better than my 'cool' job I had at the time. He used to tell me I must not have REALLY tried because all you have to do is - no kidding - walk in there, demand to see a manager and tell him that you aren't going anywhere until you're hired!!!

@WashedOutGundamPilot @KonataWagner Sounds like a great way to not only not get the job, but get escorted off the premises.

I thankfully had the good sense to go into a field of study where companies would be fighting for my attention to hire me. I have had some calls saying they wanted to interview me without me saying a word to them, but I would turn them down due to having a great job already. Got hired before finishing my last semester.

Not sure if that will still be happening to others.

@houseoftolstoy @KonataWagner That's the thing, once you're on a successful track it compounds. That's why so many end up in a death spiral. All it takes is one bad job choice and before you know it all your future prospects are 30% tougher. Maybe it's waiting at a crap company for a promotion that was promised, or deciding to put off schooling to keep making "good money" (for a 22 yo), the market doesn't have to cut anyone slack anymore because we're all expendable and no one has to care.

I guess the same kind of thing is in effect in dating. Guys act like the 6' minimum is a hard line, in reality they just let it get into their head and color all their interactions going forward. In the end it's a slef fulfilling prophecy
