Every time people judge a middle eastern leader for being a bad guy, they take that leader out and it turns out the bad guy was actually holding back an even worse guy.

@sj_zero @DW2 this is why I am opposed to military intervention in the Middle East (or anywhere else really). All we do is get in the way of people in other countries doing whatever they are doing.

Oh, they have awful laws and aredoing terrible things to [insert marginalized group]? Don't care. We should not be inserting our morals and wasting our resources on places we are not welcome.

@houseoftolstoy @sj_zero @DW2 That is kind of the point though isn't it, making sure leaders agree with bigger country values and are allies to said bigger country. The common people might suffer, but as long as the leader is/is not a communist/USD user/etc... it worked.
We're like the brave, virtuous white knight who is also deeply retarded.

The evil sorcerous attacks the thief with a heart of gold who is protecting puppies and the dumb knight yells "Stop, evildoer!" and slays the thief because obviously you have to protect the weak, and obviously the woman must be the weaker one, so have at thee knave!

The retarded knight isn't always bad. If there's an evil dragon he's your guy. A big guy in black armor who kicks commoners out of the way for fun and takes the long way to his destination to get as many kicking opportunities as possible? Our shining white knight is on top of it. There's even been times when the dumb knight reformed someone, like that time there was a samurai who was honorable but misguided and needed to be beaten in battle using the knight's most powerful attack not once but twice to convince him to stop and listen.

Managing a complex balance of power where if any one faction gains too much power it will lead to an actual immediate genocide? Politics are for the king and queen who employ such a knight, not the knight himself. I tend to think the knight isn't just the military, but the society whose democracy sees things in simplistic ways and so won't support complex political moves in a region. The king or queen isn't around, just the knight screaming "I'll save you!" and making things way worse.
