1) You can not have a functioning society without these people. The only thing holding this shit together is gen x/boomers.
2) Yeah if you want to live in rural 1800's.
Modern society requires infrastructure to be built and constantly maintained.

and yes, if you want to live in rural 1200s or something, but that's still a functioning society. the bare minimum. everything else is superfluous. I like it, but it's not exactly essential

If you consider subsistence living a functional society than fine, Ill give you that.
But most 1st worlders consider things like indoor plumbing, electricity, postal system etc. to be essential to society functioning.
