Do they just not care if they die or at least not think as much if their actions they do in the present moment will cause them to die earlier?
Like maybe they think they will die in the distant future but just want to have fun now even if it causes them to die earlier

More unhealthy levels of obesity per person

Think of it like a video game. A menu of options show up that you pick from. All the options are short term as in within the next 5 mins.
They won't think they will die, until dying is 5 mins away.
