I'll never forget the time I was at an upscale outdoor clothing store and a woman at the checkout was totally oblivious to the fact that her toddler was trying to open the door and walk out into the parking lot. there was a driving lane right in front of the door so that would have been less than ideal for the kid

I tried to get the woman's attention but she ignored me, so I gently stopped the kid from opening the door. like 10 seconds later the woman rushed over and acted like I was trying to abduct her kid. no question, no thanks, she just immediately assumed I was an evil creep

this was like 15 years ago, before things started getting really crazy
