Police are simply a source of revenue for the municipality and the strong-arm of the government to keep you silent and compliant.
@Zeb Well, I understand there is a need for a police department; there are too many knuckleheads out there.
However, I agree with your sentiment. They *are* adversarial to the Citizen In Good Standing and Need to be muzzled.
Abolishing "qualified immunity" is a start and allowing individual cops to be sued for misconduct is the next step. They should be personally liable and these settlements should NOT be absorbed by the municipal budget.
