The problem is people believing the mainstream media
If women's voting rights were taken away today
The media would still declare whoever they want to have been elected to whatever government position they want on the news
Police & military would back up the decrees of whoever the media selected because people would believe that person has the right to rule them because the media said that person was elected
Election results would not change

The root problem is democracy, in general. A “republic” might work, so long as it shed any pretense at democracy. But why even bother ? Republics are a stop-gap during the period before a clear Genghis Khan or Julius Caesar emerge - while the established Clans are more-or-less evenly matched. It is in their nature to give way; either to the order of Imperium, or the chaos of democracy.
