The townspeople are furious. The hope is that they'll connect with relatives or coethnics in the city 2 hours away and move out, which always worked when they'd get a small handful of weird fugees, but some boomers are trying to get federal funds to turn some of the decrepit old downtown buildings into temporary housing for a few hundred more. I wouldn't be surprised if things pop off there in January

But to understand how you would end up there you have to think about the path that the country would have to take to get there. Most people don't do this, because it's complex.

A major component I feel most people don't factor in enough is how much people *really* believe they belong in a place. If people can say "fuck it, I'm going back to X" they will do that well before things get insane.
