Learned this from US astronomers and corroborated in the article:
The proposed budget cuts of ⅔ (6 Billion cut out of 9 Billion $) and intended firing of half of the workforce at the National Science Foundation really would mean a massacre of US #astronomy if even a part of these cuts are realized.
Uncertainties & delays already seriously affect our ongoing international observing campaigns. I wouldn’t count on any US commitment in the near future. 🤔
