There is this really good article by the atlantic trying to debunk the book or book series

The Atlantic admits the information in the book was correct and that Sephardic Jews owned black slaves
But then claims to debunk it because some sephardic Jews lived in cities
That sounds like just the kind of thing id expect to read from them.
