I have to pay W2 and 1099 for my business and have to file like 8 different schedules and can still manage to complete the free fillable file in a couple hours max (if they didn't move shit around every year I could even automate it) without paying anything
yes, the tax forms are stupid and poorly laid out, but what in the fuck even is Direct File? are people really too dumb to file their taxes without retard mode turned on when they just have a W2?
This was my take, as well. I keep a spreadsheet with the calcs / math, update it with whatever changes, copy to the fillable forms = done. Even after Trump's "reforms" made self-employed business filings more complicated (more sub-forms), it's still child's play.
The problem is, most 'mericans can't do 4th grade reading-comprehension and math, any more. The jews were afraid that made them too-smart = dangerous.

The IRS sometimes interprets a different meaning to the text which contradicts the plain English meaning and I can not tell when they choose to do that
