In this context left means supporting whatever the government supports
Historicly the line traces back to people who supported blind faith in the government
That is why being a part of the line makes people leftist
@reallyangry @shortstories Well I don’t know of anyone seriously claiming there’s Salvation outside The Church; usually what’s disputed is what qualifies as said Church.
There’s also some debate for the last few centuries as to what constitutes “Salvation”, esp. whether it’s a one-time historical event vs a lifelong process (which latter is apparently the older of the two). Germane to this in light of the given Ecclesiology arises the related questions whether one can “lose Salvation” / whether one can “really leave The Church”.
These points aren’t directly obviously related as such to Traditional Christian political views, as far as I can tell. I think this has something to do with The Faith transcending social class / status.
@reallyangry @shortstories The way I see Christianity traditionally dealing with the question of relative commitment / sincerity in the Faith, is detailed (more than defined) in the Lives of The Saints. Independently of whether a person is presently Saved while living on Earth in flesh, an entire established Tradition exists of determining, post mortem, whether reason exists to believe a given person is still alive after having died. That’s really what the whole “Saint So-and-So” deal is all about.
