Exactly zero Japanese language records of him ever being a samurai. The most we have on him is that he existed, hung around Nobunaga for around a year and then after the defeat was shipped off to a monastery and never heard from again.
There is no proof he ever even fought. He was a glorified scabbard for Nobunaga's swords.
