After centuries of dominance, the Western Roman Empire fell in 476 CE, when the last Roman emperor, Romulus Augustulus, was deposed by the Germanic leader Odoacer, marking the end of Roman rule in the West. The Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire) continued for nearly a millennium more, until it was finally conquered in 1453 CE by the Ottoman Turks under Sultan Mehmed II, who captured the capital, Constantinople. #joshuaolaiya"
