They are slowly roasting it, but they still find it useful. If they sense they might lose control of the us, they'll just floor it.

I wonder if that is true, and it probably is. But they are pragmatists, and if the US wasn't supporting them or wasn't around at all, they would be sitting ducks for their "neighbors".
