I’m not really an expert on the details, but it’s been my understanding that 23-and-Me was an utter shitshow, and ran in the red for their entire existence. Any attempt at solvency was recklessly abandoned, in favor of amassing as much genome data as possible, with little-to-no regard for anything else. Lab fees at the time implied some $200-$300 of operating expenses / labor for each individual genetic test, which they sold it at a ludicrous loss. To me this is highly suspicious. I don’t know exactly what they intend or not for that data, but it was worth crashing and burning the company to get it. I want nothing to do with such an outfit; nothing good would come of it.

@KingOfWhiteAmerica They're either going to sell it to finally make their profit, or they're financed by someone else who decided to go all-out for the cause -- that is to say, like Disney, they have already made their money and now it's time to blow it all on their goals and influence, and losing money isn't a concern because the goal is control and dominance.
