So my uncle is a 40-year-man at Boeing and we were talking about all their quality problems and he was mentioning how this had been coming for 30 years. He sent me some documents (like, paper documents!) showing how all these problems go back to the McDonnell-Douglas merger in 1997.

I was reading them and there was a lot of stuff about getting specialist engineer-managers out of the assembly line and making Boeing's experts redundant. What was really interesting, though, was because these were two huge government contractors the feds were involved and it was actually the White House pushing for all these "efficiencies" that wound up killing Boeing's QA in a generation.

But it all ultimately came back to one order for "the merged company to reduce QA and assembly resources by 70% by 2001," ordered and signed not by SecDef, but by the First Lady at the time, HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON.

Still trying to get all these scanned up but I'll post Clinton-Boeing documents tomorrow.
