I bought and read a book a few years back that ties a lot of this same stuff together called "Sex and Rockets: The Occult World of Jack Parsons."
Parsons, of Jet Propulsion Laboratories fame, was good friends with Aleister Crowley and L.R. Hubbard, founder of Scientology. The three of them got up to all kinds of weird ceremonial magic rituals out in the New Mexico dessert.
It was an interesting read.
