To the people applying AI to curing disease the FDA is a stumbling block that they'd like to throw in the wood chipper.

There is an army of leftists with various sorts of non-engineering degrees, and these are the clients of the regime. They need jobs with fancy titles and nice paychecks to repay their loyalty.

So there are gobs and gobs of mandated paper shuffler jobs doing paperwork compliance at defense contractors and lots of other places too, such as hospitals etc.

That adds way more to the cost than the cost of their salaries and bennies. It also diverts people who actually do the work to doing a variety of make-work tasks that do not add value.

These bureaucrats that have to be larded into everything are kind of like trannies -- a totally superfluous luxury item that maybe you can have in a society that is wealthy and has no risks. But these things actively destroy wealth, so it is just a matter of time before they are unaffordable.

Like with the drone situation. We can afford all of our drones to be hyperexpensive due to regulatory BS when our big enemy is Venezuela. But when we start dealing with countries that aren't implementing a civilizational death wish -- where competence is valued -- places like China or Russia or Iran -- we start to see that approach is rapidly approaching its sell-by date.

People comparing AI subscriptions to Netflix or Disney+ plans don't understand the difference between a commodity and a legal monopoly. Copyright is the moat protecting franchises and exclusive releases. You can't just order a new Lord of the Rings equivalent from the Idea Store. In contrast anyone with money can produce a good enough chat LLM. Not to mention the fact that major players are committed to giving the service away.
