I have a friend that works with a rescue organization for people who get lost or trapped (falls and injuries) overnight on trails and into some of the back country in Canada. Things happen but he's seen a complete shift in the number and type of calls they're making in the last 10 years.

What used to be genuine accidents are now majority jeets wandering into forest and mountains completely unprepared. Completely. Sandals instead of hiking boots. Utterly inappropriate clothing. Zero planning for the "hike". No food and minimal water. They just decide they're going to walk 10+ miles into a mountain forest trail and back in an afternoon.

Each rescue is a lot of time and money as well as putting my friend in danger. But these fuckers just expect to be rescued by us as a matter of course. They are loathed.
