The premise is Ukraine and the EU knew for sure that the US is abandoning Ukraine no matter what, so Zelensky wanted to stage some drama where he'd be David against Trump Goliath and make some eloquent stand for MUH DEMOCRACY and make Trump look like a Putin dupe and shill.

The problem is Vance and Trump were clearly ready for him and trolled him into acting like the pitiful manlet that he is, to the point where moderate liberals and his own ambassador were facepalming at his disastrous performance.
