I wish I had.

Unfortunately I also had a wife that managed my money while I was at sea. And spent it partying with the guys on base.

Part of my debt was the cost of the divorce.

In my teenage years, I asked the boomers why should I work hard to get into debt for a made-up number (the credit score). They couldn’t give me a satisfactory answer. So instead, I left the military with a large amount of savings and investments, with no debt. I bought my first house with cash.

The problem is: why should anyone work harder?

Back when I was starting out the answer was: so you can be independent and buy your own house and start a family.

And I did that. Just squeaked into home ownership about 15 years ago.

That was then.

Even with working 80 hours a week, those goals are no longer attainable for a large swath of zoomers.

Houses have increased in price WAY over what wages have increased. Home ownership for most zoomers is a fantasy.

And start a family? With whom? Over half of zoomer men have never asked a girl out on a date in person. The digital age plus hoeflation have poisoned the dating market. A lot of guys are just dropping out of it.

"Just work harder" is no longer the answer. Our society is toxic and broken and no matter how hard you work, you will never be able to get ahead like previous generations did.

So until that gets fixed, Dave's advice sounds like plain old Boomerism.

And we've heard plenty of that.
