@andetritus It's more a philosophical POV. Virtue is the benchmark, so Europeans in 1000 AD were immensely superior to Europeans (including the former colonies) in 2025 AD, and the benchmark has been trending downward for 1025 years.

For me I'll tolerate a bit more vice if I can have indoor plumbing, painless dentistry and air conditioning along with it.
