"Christians" think it is. What's most likely to trap us is not belief in the wrong doctrine or joining the wrong faction, it's having an improper understanding of *temporal power*.
Clearly we need to have a lot more temporal power in order to stop psychopaths from getting it and using it to harm others at scale. Using temporal power to explore and study the mysteries of the Universe is also itself a form of worship and one well suited to our particular nature. Thus, calls by "Christians" to renounce temporal power (especially technology) are obvious malware and should be ignored / mocked.
However, temporal power must always remain an *instrumental* goal rather than an end in itself: we want temporal power in order to protect good, fight evil, and seek truth. So long as temporal power remains a *tool we have* rather than *who we are* or an object of worship we'll be okay.
