V2 booster had 4 grid fins in the interstage and an ejectable hot staging ring with heat shield. V3 booster has 3 grid fins in compartments within the methane tank and an integrated hot staging interstage with a reinforced methane tank dome.

The V3 Ship has longer propellant tanks, and probe & drogue propellant refueling docking ports.
