Something I think is WAY under-appreciated is the fact that internet is *violently* redirecting the course of human history away from what was pretty obviously going to be running off a cliff.

In the 90s, we were doing all of the stupid shit we're doing now, but we were unaware of it. Now this internet thing comes along and all of the sudden BOOM, moment of clarity, now we're saying "oh shit, we're doing this and it's a terrible idea!"

But the moment of clarity means that we're already shifting away from that endgame, and what's far more likely at this point is the people who Get It are going to fast optimize and then conquer the ones that don't.

When the Moral Majority was rampaging through the land threatening blasphemers like myself with some kind of vaguely defined theocratic regime I eventually got past the bluster and noticed that each year - maybe even each week - Christianity was getting weaker and weaker.
