@judgedread @TrevorGoodchild From the above we can quickly see why so many "Christians" (aka heterodox / heretics) are useless and annoying to you.

Vast swaths of "Christians" in America are some flavor of *Calvinist*, meaning they believe in predestination. They think you are a puppet without free will who probably was created for the purpose of being a bad example and subject to eternal punishment for crimes you couldn't decide not to commit. This is exactly as vile and disgusting as it sounds.

Many more "Christians" are some flavor of Talmudic / Jesuitical rules lawyer, they worship some flavor of "the rugpull God" where more than sincere repentance (ideally you try and clean up your own mess) is required to make the cut. "Oops, you unwittingly violated Rule 87b stroke 6, off to Hell with you!" or conversely some version of "we did the arcane magic ritual to put the sins into the chickens so we're okay!"

In contrast, Trevor and I are merely Bad People so there is some hope for us.

There are areas of intentionally bare stainless steel on Ship 38's windward side. To see how S38 can fare.

@judgedread Having attended Cathloic school for many years I was floored to learn that there were more gospels besides Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and they were pretty wild. The fact that the bible is curated by the church proves it's a human institution. It doesn't mean we cant learn anything from it or draw some meaning from it, but it's still a very human thing, and we should take it with a grain of salt.
@Patricles It's also funny that Protestants are stuck with (most of) the Bible Catholics compiled. No escaping tradition.
The pre-printing press world is a highly controlled memetic space. Any media beyond the level of a wandering minstrel requires considerable capital expenditure. If you put on a play that offends the crown it is trivially easy to shut it down and burn every script.

The most impressive multimedia show in most cities and towns is provided by the Catholic church.

A very different attention economy.
It's not a debate, it's a sales pitch.

The mark can walk away at any time. He doesn't need to deboonk you. There are no rules of engagement. No one has to engage at all.

Thank you for attending my TED Talk.
The Charlie Kirk 'revival' is smaller than Barbenheimer and will vanish just as swiftly.
This is a kind of simulator. I just read that extremely demanding Christian cults like the Hutterites have an 80% defection rate - that's how many of their kids leave the cult.

This explains why high demand religions haven't taken over the US despite it being a hothouse for fanatic generation. The burned over district couldn't sell it.
The most convincing defense of Christianity I've seen is the life of Mr. Rogers and Slate Star Codex's review of a history of Christianity.

Not that they convince me that it's TRUE, but that it's useful for many people to be convinced that it's true.

It generates Leviathan to control Moloch, to put it in Scott Alexander's terminology.
