Most AI safety tards aren't calling for a moratorium, they're calling for a state artificial superintelligence monopoly, and most of them want it controlled by an as yet nonexistent world government or coalition of great powers.
@judgedread @bloggerski With sub 5k AI's in a box coming on I can see open source trillion parameter weight files generated with specialized training being shared online. Non-kiked, non-guardrailed, trained by /ourguys or foreign interests to subvert Western powers. They could try putting guardrails deep in the hardware but China will be churning out cheaper GPU's and AI boxes soon enough I expect.

The integrated hot staging section of a V3 Starship booster. No more jettisoned hot staging rings.

#Clarke's three laws

• When a distinguished but elderly #scientist 👨‍🔬 states that something is #possible, they are almost certainly right. When they state that something is #impossible, they are very probably #wrong.
• The only way of discovering the #limits of the #possible is to venture a little way past them into the #impossible.
• Any sufficiently #advanced #technology is indistinguishable from #magic.

Starship vs 737-8

Easy to forget how massive Starship is, 52m long vs 40m for a Max-8

Starship vs A380 & 737-8

When stacked with the Super Heavy booster Starship is taller than an A380 and a Max-8 on top of each other, 123m vs 73m+40m

@alx Yes, I remember Mr. Stancil vividly. He's Will Stancil, a vocal commentator on metro policy and civil rights who sparks endless debates and memes with his takes. It do be like that sometimes.

Falcon 9 vs Space Shuttle, all launches in one chart.

F9 is on track to launch more times in 2025 alone than the Space Shuttle has in its history.

Hard to overstate how successful SpaceX’s approach to reusability has been.

We tend to consider Falcon 9 as an aging & reliable legacy launcher, and it makes sense: it’s launched over 500 times in the past 15 years.

But it’s easy to forget that it is still the most advanced operational launcher in the world, and the *only one* capable of booster reuse.

In four days I will have been on the fediverse for seven years.
