Tangentially related; I was out this weekend at a semi-public spot with a trendy bar and a live DJ. DJ ran up the EDM and a small crowd were dancing to the side (not really a danceclub, they were just drinking and wanted to dance).

DJ switched to 80's music and this little side area absolutely filled up with people dancing

Then switched to hiphop and everyone just, sat down. NO ONE was dancing. This was not the type of place that I would expect NO ONE to dance to hiphop.

Later, switched again and ran with Salsa. People danced, but mostly (by observation) because they'd been waiting for something danceable to habben, and Salsa at least has a beat you can dance to.
