@judgedread I haven't gotten there yet; multiplexing books decreases throughput. But I really frequently want to post this clip of Hamming during one of his lectures and I keep thinking "I should find that part where he says this", but he says the problem with Bell Labs was that they stopped researchers being in charge of the hiring and started putting the business guys in charge and it was something like "You'll find that someone with unconventional ideas about physics will also have unconventional ideas about proper behavior and personal hygeine"; he went on to say that kind of person was off-putting to the business guys, who started hiring people that were more conventional, and you can't run an R&D department with conventional-thinking people.

Where do you get these ideas?

The Worst Generation: There is no advice as useless as a baby boomer's advice. The generation that rebelled against both their parents and their children. That gained no wisdom and passed no wisdom on to their kids. I even had boomers react hostilely to the idea of passing intergenerational wealth to an heir!

Very interesting. These vermouths have more going on than the ubiquitous Martini & Rossi vermouths.

The French Dry Vermouth is very mild without much in the way of botonicals and spices, just a touch of bitterness in the finish. Otherwise it's much like a dry-ish white wine, but not the dry-est white wine Ive ever tasted.

The Sweet Vermouths were very different and I preferred the Cocchi Storico to the Carpano Antica Formula. The Cocchi Storico started off sweet and then moved into classic baking spices (apple pie, pumpkin pie aka nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, mace, star anise, etc) and finished with a lingering touch of bitterness. Whereas the Carpano Antica kind of maintained one flavor profile from start to finish, it had more bitterness combined with a prominent vanilla flavor. This Carpano Antica is favored for Manhattans and Rob Roys as the vanilla flavor accentuates the vanilla flavors in the whisky from oak barrel aging. #Vermouth
