I've always thought that it was neither the invention of the wheel or the discovery of fire that was the greatest advancement for humans.

My argument would be that the creation of written language would be the greatest. With it, humans no longer had to remember everything they ever heard, seen, or discovered. The written word (and photography) are a time machine - a way to look into the past.

@StephenMckenna Tension of power, it’s the only way. Same with business, a monopoly destroys the free market and competition leading to corruption.
