A 22-year-old U.S. Army soldier, Jakob Marcoulier, has been arrested for allegedly planning a mass shooting at a synagogue, where he intended to kill everyone inside.

Federal prosecutors say Marcoulier shared disturbing voice messages and posts on Discord, claiming that his “goal in life” was to enter a synagogue armed with an AK-style rifle and carry out the attack.

In these recordings, he reportedly described using an assault rifle equipped with high-capacity drum magazines, along with body armor, after returning from an overseas deployment.

Court documents indicate that the alleged threats were driven by white supremacist and antisemitic beliefs. Marcoulier is also said to have justified the planned violence as a way to protect what he referred to as the future of “white youth.”

He has been charged with transmitting a threat in interstate commerce.

If convicted, he could face up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
