Utopian leftists don't realize how much they would hate a true post-scarcity society like Star Trek's, because even though the economic factors of scarcity go away, human society just reorganizes itself into a pure meritocracy which they would be at the absolute bottom of. Sure, they'd have all their basic needs taken care of and maybe even access to many luxuries, but the low social status derived from their total social unimportance would drive many of their narcissistic asses to rope even faster than they otherwise would have in modern neoliberal capitalist society. Social standing and power is everything to these people.
@Hoss This happens on the internet quite a lot. The internet is essentially post-scarcity. You can copy and send a file a nearly infinite number of times. Still so many people cling to personal gains that they don't want people to use things they have created, in much the same way that corporations have instituted copyright laws
