really need to put the kibosh on all this "AI" shit
@deprecated_ii Do you think it will ever get good enough to replace coders? I think that’s the biggest hope for its proponents. Either that or the ability to produce predictive models that actually work. I cannot think of another justifiable reason to push LLM’s at such heavy cost.
@John_Darksoul @deprecated_ii as somebody who uses AI in programming work, I can tell you they are nowhere remotely near ready to replace humans. I'm not convinced that this current LLM solution is even suitable to produce something that can.

That's not to say it's not useful, but it's wrong 90% of the time as soon as you slightly step out of boilerplate land.

@RustyCrab @deprecated_ii @John_Darksoul

One hunnert percent. Useful in many small peripheral ways, but sucks badly at actual coding.

Even the term "predictive modelling" is misleading. If you gave an LLM all known musical knowledge up to the year 1900 & asked it to "predictively model" a new form of music that combines Western classical harmonic structures & West African rhythms, it could never create Blues, Jazz, Rock or Metal.

It would sound like shit. It would sound like Limp Bizkit.

@UncleIroh @deprecated_ii @John_Darksoul if you want a real trip, try to get copilot to learn a programming language it's never seen before. The result will be it Frankensteining invalid syntax together from multiple other languages.

I can only imagine the horrors. It utterly failed at reminding me how to script tmux, no way I'm asking it to show me Go or rust.
