I was watching some FreeBSD video yesterday and a guy talked about the history of it out nowhere I hear the sentence: "my husband's sister...". I 'd spill a drink if I had any. I turned it of and moved on. When I keep saying tech communities are degenerating, this goes way back to BSD days, 1970s, it seems.
FreeBSD is perhaps the best, most rock-solid open source server platform out there with some of the longest uptimes to be found.
Configured correctly it's practically bullet-proof. Big fan.
Almost by default BSD sysadmins are among the best out there, but it's not difficult if all you want is a basic AMP stack or single-use VPS.
If you want hardened jails, ZFS and other BSD goodies then sure, you might need help. I've found their community to be very helpful in the past.
As for drivers, etc.. that's a non issue for 95% of it's target audience - headless servers. There are plenty of cloud providers offering FreeBSD servers.
