The only way to survive is to persuade enough people in a certain location you live in or will live in to not adopt certain worldviews and to get trained to defend themselves and gather certain resources so that they can survive when they try to invade or starve out that region

If you hunt animals you can eat them right away
Certain animals can digest plants and get calories from them that humans can not
You can get milk from cows that eat grass which can get calories from grass but humans can not get calories from grass or only a negligible percent of what cows can get from the same amount of grass
Humans can get eggs from hens or milk from cows without killing those animals at least if the eggs are not fertilized
