@houseoftolstoy There has been a big push to get women into STEM, quotas, women only scholarships, etc. Problem is by the time they get to the end of the multi year course, most have dropped out and most of the rest can’t cut it in the real economy and go into other less demanding fields or design bridges that collapse.
@atomic The problem with this approach is that you push a lot of those who never had a genuine interest but were only doing so because they felt compelled to do it for feminism and equality. But the further you get into such a major, the less that compulsion has an effect and the reality hits on what the major really is about.
This is why so many pushes for equality fail. They only care about the surface level appearances.
@atomic True. I would not be surprised if the numbers are up for women in STEM. When I started college, my major had ZERO females. Then it ticked up to about 4 when I was graduating. So I do see that the trend could still be going up, but you are right about the dropoff rate. Though males also dropoff too, as many of them are also not cut out for it. But I would expect it to be higher for females because a lot of them are being pushed harder to start STEM because muh equality.
