Chattel slavery where you keep people's descendants, torture them, and deprive them of basic human rights is unconstitutional and immoral.

Good point! I didn't even think of that but I do remember reading somewhere that the amount of $ they had to spend on garrissons to quell slave revolts was so expensive it borderline unsustainable without excessive taxes.
Slavery also requires armed overseers and a whole set of institutions and laws.
Human rights mistakenly assume that people are valuable for being people.
Many people are not good, and should not have rights. That simply enables them to revenge themselves on the good people.
