Hilarious! It looks as if electric car owners in the UK will have to pay tax based on the distance they are driving.

I've been arguing that this will happen for many, many years.

First people are hounded to buy an expensive electric car to "save the environment" and then, when the tax income from gasoline decreases, the electric car owners are hit with mileage tax.

On this platform, surely no one can be surprised, but I am happy that ignorant climate hysteria fools will

@Sherri_Ingrey Thank you. Huevos racnheros seem like another winner!

@shortstories @dt_oid Egg drop soup looks like a winner! As for cholesterol, I generally eat quite a lot of egg and my doctor says I'm super healthy, so to me, the egg cholesterol scare seems like nonsense.

@dt_oid Not a fan of Quiche, but fried egg and soft boiled in soup or ramen are excellent suggestions! Thank you!

@SMetzeler It must be outlawed. The clue is literally in the book!

The goal is to eradicate all other political isms.

It is incomprehensible that the west is not yet able to realize this.

Poppers paradox of tolerance is THE most important philosophical lessons for the west to learn before it is too late.

I am having my doubts, because I think it most likely already is too late, and I am planning to retire to rural USA when europe burns. The more republican and christian the better!

Islam should be ended!
Iranian activists have been trying for years to change the law but it’s not possible because changing it would mean changing the religion itself and that’s apostasy and blasphemy and we all know how Islam reacts to that.

@remixtures Fear not... chinese open weight models to the rescue! China will eat this market if the US continues with its incompetent, anti-capitalist politics.

As an added bonus, a chinese open weight model might actually be allowed to say "negro" if I want it to! 😀

Too many eggs... what to do? So far:

1. Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Great combination!

2. Omelette with bacon. Also excellent combination!

Any other suggestions?

@remixtures I still have not seen any articles detailing how many remote exploits the AI:s have found with the code available (open source) and without the code available.

I couldn't care less, in my business, about local exploits. If an attacker made it that far, the game is already over.

UNIX philosophy:
"Do ONE thing and do it well."

Modern IT:
"Subscribe to our service does that it all... kind of.. poorly... when it's working. Also, you don't mind ads for our other offerings and sponsors, right?"

The ladybird.org/ browser alternative to FF is so close to being usable!

I tried the latest appimage today, and for text/images it's great. The only thing that was lacking was good ad blocking and youtube videos were a bit laggy.

I suspect, but do not know, that if I would compile ladybird natively for my linux the lagging would disappear when watching videos.

The amount of progress they made the past year is amazing!

I hope everyone will read these comments about going cashless.

It’s a two minute read. No one has explained it better. He brings up several situations I'd never considered.

HERE'S WHAT NO CASH ACTUALLY MEANS:

A cashless society means no cash. Zero. It doesn’t mean mostly cashless and you can still use a ‘wee bit of cash here & there’. Cashless means fully digital, fully traceable, fully controlled. I think those who support a cashless society aren’t fully aware of what they are asking for. A cashless society means:
* If you are struggling with your mortgage on a particular month, you can’t do an odd job to get you through.

* Your child can’t go & help the local farmer to earn a bit of summer cash.
* No more cash slipped into the hands of a child as a good luck charm or from their grandparent when going on holidays.
* No more money in birthday cards.
* No more piggy banks for your child to collect pocket money & to learn about the value of earning.
* No more cash for a rainy day fund or for that something special you have been putting $20 a week away for.
* No more little jobs on the side because your wages barely cover the bills or put food on the table.
* No more charity collections.
* No more selling bits & pieces from your home that you no longer want/need for a bit of cash in return.
* No more cash gifts from relatives or loved ones.
What a cashless society does guarantee:
* Banks have full control of every single penny you own.
* Every transaction you make is recorded.
* All your movements & actions are traceable.
* Access to your money can be blocked at the click of a button when/if banks need ‘clarification’ from you which will take about 3 weeks, a thousand questions answered & five thousand passwords.
* You will have no choice but to declare & be taxed on every dollar in your possession.
* The government WILL decide what you can & cannot purchase.
* If your transactions are deemed in any way questionable, by those who create the questions, your money will be frozen, ‘for your own good’.

Forget about cash being dirty. Stop being so easily led. Cash has been around for a very, very, very long time & it gives you control over how you trade with the world. It gives you independence.
If you are a customer, pay with cash. If you are a shop owner, remove those ridiculous signs that ask people to pay by card. Cash is a legal tender, it is our right to pay with cash. Banks are making it increasingly difficult to lodge cash.

Please open your eyes. Please stop believing everything you are being told. Almost every single topic in today’s world is tainted with corruption & hidden agendas.
Pay with cash & please say no to a cashless society while you still have the choice.

PLEASE REMIND THIS!

FREE SPEECH UNDER ATTACK BY THE BULLIES IN BRUSSELS
Hungary’s New PM Péter Magyar Arresting Anti-EU Journalists
~ Free Speech Is Solely An American Right - Nowhere Else ~

Reports from July 2026 indicate that anti-EU journalists and critics of Hungary's new pro-EU Prime Minister Péter Magyar have been arrested or subjected to police raids, with allegations that these actions constitute a free speech crackdown. Sources claim that journalists criticizing the government over immigration and perceived broken promises were questioned for hours, had their electronics confiscated, and in some cases were accused of planning terrorist plots.

This development contrasts sharply with Magyar's earlier promises to dismantle state propaganda; upon taking power in April 2026, he suspended state media broadcasts, labeling them a "factory of lies" and apologizing to those previously persecuted under former leader Viktor Orbán. While the government shut down the pro-Orbán MTVA broadcaster to restore independence, recent reports suggest a shift toward aggressive tactics against conservative and anti-EU media voices.

Critics, including commentators on GB News, have compared Magyar's current pursuit of the media to free speech crises in other Western nations, noting that the new administration is harassing those who view its policies on democracy and migration as betrayals of campaign rhetoric.

In This Video:
Anti-EU journalists who criticise Hungary's new pro-EU prime minister over what they view as broken promises on immigration and democracy have been arrested, while others claim to have been harassed by the new government.

Virag Gulyas tells GB News Peter Magyar's aggressive pursuit of the media is similar to the UK's free speech crisis perpetrated by pro-EU, anti-free-speech Two-tier-Keir Starmer.

@jon @Vivaldi I will have a look in time, when the browser engine is ladybird.org/ or at least, gecko, and when the browser is open source. Then I will definitely have a look.

@mildpeach I assume that your vpn server software should be able to tell you who is logged on through it.

If you're talking about anonymizers, I imagine that you would have to lookup their IP:s and make a decision based on that.

@paninid This is the way. I've been running an open source community for 10+ years, and from time to time the LF ask, what is the secret? I tell them... do not become the LF. 😎
