you can blame Steve Jobs for it since the smartphone was the main killer

it's not that people don't still end up together but the whole structure of courtship -- which was already in rough shape by the 90s -- was murdered by internet dopamine. women don't even have to sleep around to remove themselves from the market, they just subsist on the attention of men they'll never meet

by 2014-2015 game/pickup was also becoming untenable

now, there's really nothing left except luck
