Not surprising he was not interested, as he could probably sense that she was the exact kind of woman who would be nothing but a bitch to deal with.
That said, I don't think he was lying. A man with enough going for him that the rejected woman isn't downplaying him is probably actually a quality man. He could have a woman if he wanted. The fact that he was available probably means he's disinterested in women in general.
