@deprecated_ii the purpose of punishment for crimes is not merely for the criminal to face justice. It sends a message to everyone else that they will also receive brutal consequences if they make the same choices as the criminals.
Singapore caning their criminals is extremely effective because even the most stupid people understand painful consequences.
