@midway @sickburnbro I should clarify my statement to be in the realm of terrorist activity. Fighting the Ottomans is not really all that special, as we have had wars with other regional powers. Same with pirates being like any other criminals.

I would argue that pirates back in the 1800s were basically the terrorists of their day. They didn’t just stop and rob ships, they took crew hostage, sold them into slavery, did their best to disrupt things. in addition to coastal raids (which mostly affected Europe). It really only settled down when France came in and took over Algeria, which, ironically, has come back to bite them in the ass now…and France doesn’t back Israel so it’s not that.

The bigger point is the US and Europe has had conflicts with Muslim groups sponsored or at least blessed by governments long before 1948. What we see today is just a modern version of it. If you want to blame support for Israel as the cause, there are plenty of counter examples…it’s just one of many excuses for bad behavior. If the US abandoned Israel today, it wouldn’t stop.
