Timestamp at specific part. I have seen this happen too many other times where "they said they were sorry" is supposed to be enough atonement for whatever horrible act that they did. No, I will not accept the call to "just move on from this" when you know full well that they do not apply this standard to their opposition. The Left never accepts just saying sorry from the Right, but they want it to be different for themselves.

As if Illinois is not already well known for having a gerrymandered map. So they are just going to do it again, but worse? Okay.

@sickburnbro That is yet another factor for why we such high levels of immigration. People already living in America have debt, so adding more people from other countries to the pool allows for more debt, thus kicking the can down the road. This will ultimately make things worse, as not only will there be more conflict in terms of the numbers of people, but also a worse rug pull when the system can no longer keep going.

@Will2Power @TrueMasterCole I had similar thoughts regarding the choice for the actor of Kyle Reese in Terminator Genisys. The guy looked liked he came out of a GQ magazine, not a war torned hellscape of a future.

@atomic The problem with this approach is that you push a lot of those who never had a genuine interest but were only doing so because they felt compelled to do it for feminism and equality. But the further you get into such a major, the less that compulsion has an effect and the reality hits on what the major really is about.

This is why so many pushes for equality fail. They only care about the surface level appearances.

@atomic True. I would not be surprised if the numbers are up for women in STEM. When I started college, my major had ZERO females. Then it ticked up to about 4 when I was graduating. So I do see that the trend could still be going up, but you are right about the dropoff rate. Though males also dropoff too, as many of them are also not cut out for it. But I would expect it to be higher for females because a lot of them are being pushed harder to start STEM because muh equality.

@atomic "There are more women in my STEM classes than men"

Which classes exactly? "Environmental science" does not really count. Perhaps some biology classes would have more women as well, but the closer you get to pure math, the less women you will see.

@merchantHelios no surprise kidney stones are worse than giving birth. You are not supposed to have kidney stones. If you have them, you most likely screwed up somewhere in your diet or you are just very unlucky. Women on the other hand where designed to give birth.

When it comes to motivating young men to do anything with the carrot and/or the stick, you better make sure the carrot is not rotten and the stick is not worn down too much.

We are definitely in the "carrot is rotten" part of motivation for young men, especially when it comes to relationships with young women. And even if the stick is fresh and ready, eventually it stops hurting when you use it too much.

@Shadowman311 They refer to her as a "single mother," but later bring up her dead husband. That makes her a WIDOW, not a single mother. I am sick of these terms being conflated, because they are most certainly not the same.

Dad’s like you should take the overtime with your new job. No thanks Dad.

This is not to say there are not the hardcore types who operate only to oppose the other side. Donald Trump has made many people come out of the woodwork who merely want to oppose him at all costs. I recall RFK Jr getting opposition from the New York Times when he criticized the use of artificial coloring in food, only for them to fall over themselves in proclaiming "there is very little difference" in non-artificial sources. The only difference being: the artificial source itself.

This is not to say that there is never anyone who has changed their views. But generally this is not due to some well crafted argument made by some pundit, but rather a life experience.

My dad for example used to be a liberal Democrat. That changed the moment he started paying taxes. For those like him, there is value in the information presented by pundits, since they now have a necessity to discover what they were never hearing due to a major turning point in their lives.

I have seen examples both on the left and right accusing the other side of not having any actual values other than opposing their enemy. I see this accusation as mostly untrue for both sides. Rather, I suspect that most people have already made up their minds on their political views and see no value in trying to repackage their message to appeal to those who are inherently opposed to those ideas.

So we see less of that kind of engagement attempted, thus "no actual values" are seen.
