I don't understand this whole "Star Trek has always been woke" thing going on. The Prime Directive was about non-interference in other cultures. That's literally Libertarianism.

The times the PD was broken were usually when the situation threatened a crew member or the whole ship.

@philosophy I think they mean probably minorities or different races as actors or characters.

Because they are too stupid knowing what plot is or what is scifi.

@Stahesh That's still Libertarian. Libertarians have always advocated color blindness and meritocracy. If it was woke Star Trek would have minorities and females in command to make up for past oppression. But Sisko and Janeway were in their positions because they earned the positions.

Writing about this now. The "Prime Directive" was the League of Nations and ethno-cultural self-determination. Old school World Federalists included that idea before the socialists took over.

As far as woke, the series always incorporated some of that, but this reflected American WW2 era propaganda against the nationalist powers.

@philosophy

Translation: Star Trek is literally inspired by 1940s US propaganda.

The best satire of this ever was "Starship Troopers," which actually is libertarian but also reflected a strong interest in Western culture.
