Even in "Patriarchal" cultures if someone mistreats their wife too much the wife's father, brothers and other male relatives could potentially come in and beat up the woman's husband

Let's say hypothetically there is no official law saying a husband has to treat his wife a certain standard or better but a man mistreats his wife so cruelly that even the police do not like what that man is doing they might choose not to arrest other men for beating up that man
