How did Australian Aboriginees learn to drink gasoline to get high?

You do not see other animals in Australia drinking gasoline to get high

@white_male

So they grab it from a bottle to drink it?

Monkeys in Asia learned to drink alcohol from people that leave alcohol or to even trick people into letting their alcohol down so they can drink it

But I never heard of monkeys in Asia drinking gasoline out of canisters because they are shaped like bottles

@shortstories Sub100 junkies literally do anything for a high. Most of your typical drugs are disgusting, Pavlov learning occurs to love it i guess.
Heck, if i'm not in the mood i force myself through first glass or two of alcohol.

@white_male

Do junkies in other countries / continents drink gasoline?

@shortstories I've heard of paint thinners and similar solvents, not of gasoline, no.

@white_male

Now tbey inhale them but do they actually drink them

You see this just sounds more crazy to me

Gasoline sniffing has several types of social meanings in Aboriginal communities. These include the demonstration of nonconformity and an effort to delay entry into mainstream life, an effort to become thin, and an expression of power and control in an otherwise powerless situation. Understanding these meanings can aid efforts to develop appropriate policies and programs. 24 references

A couple of years earlier, it was reported that a 14-year-old boy from the Sichuan province in China was struggling with a 5-year habit. Born from a desire to turn into a Transformer, the boy’s addiction began with drinking the butane out of cigarette lighters, but soon progressed into siphoning gasoline from the family’s motorcycle and sipping on that.

@shortstories Now this gets me thinking. Maybe there's a gateway drug that leads people to drinking from the pump.

@white_male

Someone on the Turd Flinging Monkey show who is a guest from Australia has said Aborigines drink gasoline unless I am misquoting him and he never said that and I heard it on another podcast

I believe he said they do not inhale it but actually drink it

And that if you drink too much you die but somehow they drank a small enough amount not to die

And he thinks they are racially really stupid and even more stupid after they are stupid enoigh to drink it

I got to log off & do stuff

@shortstories He's not wrong on IQ impact. It even corelates within races, dumber individuals get hooked on shit easier and in numbers.

@white_male

I do not know what episode they mention Aborigines drinking gasoline if they mention it on this podcast probably was months ago going to log out of here

Sadly I was wrong Chinese people do it too

In 2011, it was reported that 71-year-old Chen Dejun, of Chongqing, China, has been drinking gasoline for over 40 years. According to one report, in 1969 when Chen picked up his habit (based on a folk remedy), kerosene was the elixir of choice; adapting to the times, he later switched to gasoline, and in 2011, he was supposedly imbibing nearly one gallon each month (about 4 ounces per day).
